Native Content Writer (Tech & Gaming)

Pedestrian group (Winner – Publishing House of the Year, Mumbrella Publish Awards 2021) is looking for a tech-focused creative writer to join our growing native team. This position will be responsible for brainstorming, producing and optimizing written branded content across our seven award-winning websites: PEDESTIAN.TV, VICE Australia, Refinery29 Australia, Business Insider Australia, Lifehacker Australia, Gizmodo Australia and Kotaku Australia.

Reporting directly to the Editorial Manager – Native and E-Commerce, our dream candidate is a skilled writer interested in technology, games and culture, is creative, organized and able to balance client goals with integrity of our publications and the varying tones of voice.

At Pedestrian Group, we work with a wide range of technology brands, including Amazon, Telstra, Samsung, Microsoft, Bethesda, and more. Every day you’ll be covering a completely different passion point for a completely different client, publication, and audience.

From drooling over food in your favorite video game to finding out why an 8K TV is worth spending, no editorial angle is out of place and out-of-the-box insights are no only welcome, but forbidden.

As the guardian of the editorial integrity of our publications, it is important that you are able to provide intelligent solutions for our clients and our publications, and that you work daily in collaboration with our teams of creative projects, partnerships and of writing.

The native content writer will:

  • Produce native content – ​​including everything from news announcements to social media posts and longer, technology, gaming and cultural content – ​​across all Pedestrian Group sites
  • Brainstorm editorial angles daily with our Partnerships team in response to client briefs
  • Work collaboratively with our creative projects team to deliver best-in-class native content while meeting client needs
  • Work collaboratively with our site editors to ensure that all native content reflects the overall editorial strategy and its various audiences, as well as to minimize content conflicts between organic and native content
  • Track the progress of native articles via a calendar and tracking spreadsheets
  • Manage multiple campaigns simultaneously

This position requires someone with:

  • At least 2 years of editorial experience, freelance or otherwise
  • An interest in technology and games
  • An appreciation of the importance of quality native content as a service to the reader
  • The ability to change the tone of your writing to suit different audiences
  • Time management skills and experience working under tight deadlines
  • Strong writing skills
  • An understanding of G-Suite tools
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices, Yoast and different CMS platforms such as WordPress
  • The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in a like-minded publication preferred, but not required
