How to Find and Install Netflix Games

It’s been six months since Netflix announced it would be adding games to its streaming platform, with a focus on unique mobile games that are easy to play on the go. Since then, Netflix has been slowly rolling out its games for specific platforms and building its roster.

Nowadays, Netflix games are available in more than 190 countries. There are currently around two dozen to choose from, with more games being added over time. They’re designed to be downloaded, so you don’t need an internet connection to play them, and there are no ads or in-app purchases, so as long as you have a Netflix account, you’re good to go. from. If you’re ready to try a game or two, here’s how to find them.

Start with the right device

Netflix games are only available on select mobile devices at this time. This contrasts with something like Apple Arcade, which is designed to be friendly to controllers and set-top boxes like Apple TVs. Netflix games, however, are not available to download natively on TVs (we’ll cover a potential workaround below). To get started, you’ll need an iOS or Android device – here are the compatible models:

Since OS updates are a key part of compatibility, make sure your device has the latest OS update before you begin. If your built-in storage is particularly full, you might want to take a moment and free up some space to be ready to download.

Choose and download a Netflix game

Step 1: Open the Netflix app on your mobile device. If you have never downloaded it on the device before, you can find it in the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

2nd step: Log in to your profile and scroll through the rows of Netflix categories. These can be a bit random, but you should soon come across a new line called Games. If you are using Android, you can also select another Games tab, which can save some time. You can then swipe left to browse the list of games. Pick one that sounds interesting.

Step 3: The game page will now display. You can check out the summary, game modes and age rating, and watch trailers to get a feel for the game. If this is something you want to try, choose either Install Where Get the game, depending on the platform you are on. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the download.

Step 4: Depending on the platform and the game, you may get a Permissions pop-up at this point. Accept it to move forward. You may also need to sign in with your account password or other information.

Step 5: Here, things diverge a bit depending on the platform. On Android, you may get a new app in the app drawer or home screen, or you may need to access the game again from the Netflix app. On Apple’s iOS, you’ll still get a separate downloaded app on your home screen. Find the game and select it to start. It should start immediately.

Step 6: Note that you cannot install games if you are using a child’s profile on Netflix. In fact, you won’t see any games at all. And games may not appear if a profile is set to a certain level of maturity that the game exceeds.

Play Netflix Games on Smart TV

Are you really invested in a game show experience or do you want to share your experience with a group? While you might not be able to get games straight to your TV, there is still a way. Here’s what you can try.

Step 1: Make sure you have a smart TV that supports streaming standards like AirPlay and Chromecast streaming.

2nd step: When you are in your game screen on Netflix or in the app, look for the small Foundry button. Select it to review your casting options (you may need to change permission settings to enable it). Make sure your smart TV is on and online, and find its device name.

Step 3: With your smart TV selected, the game should now be streaming to your larger screen so you can see it there. But that doesn’t always mean a game will work with a controller. On the Netflix game page, scroll down to the section titled More details. Here, find the Supports controllers section, and watch to see if it says “yes”. Games without controller support can be very difficult to play when streaming to your smart TV.
