The Washington Capitals host the Los Angeles Kings and a lot has happened this morning. TJ Oshie got into COVID protocols and Joe Snively got called. From now on, this match will go as planned.

The Capitals defeated the Kings 2-0 on Nov. 17 behind Ilya Samsonov’s 34-save shutout. It was the first shutout against Los Angeles since February 5, 2017. The Caps have won five straight games against the Kings since February 11, 2019, scoring them 18-9 in that streak.

John Carlson starts tonight’s game with 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 30 games and is tied for fourth among NHL defensemen. With an assist against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night, Carlson passed Mike Ridley (547) for eighth on the franchise’s points list.

Carlson’s 548 points are the most important among defensemen with 121 goals and 427 assists. He is now seven points away from overtaking Bengt-Ake Gustafsson for seventh in franchise points. Carlson’s 320 points (68 goals and 252 assists) since 2016-17 ranks first among defensemen in the NHL.

Snively was on the ice for morning practice wearing the number 91 jersey. Vitek Vanecek started in goal.

Tom Wilson (upper body), Garnet Hathaway (COVID protocol) and goaltending coach Scott Murray (COVID protocol) were also on the ice. Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Oshie will not be available due to the COVID protocol.
